Ivan Huffed and Puffed ... and Concrete Won

Kathy Jumper,  Real Estate Editor with the Mobile Register wrote on September 26 about one of the most important decisions being made today by those who were hit by the recent hurricanes.

"What material should I use to rebuild my home, that I can afford and that will last a hurricane the next time I may be hit?"

Concrete-reinforced structures appeared to have been the winners in the battle against Ivan in all areas. Aerial photographs taken of the coastline by the Mobile Register show that most of the condo buildings left standing amid the debris were built of concrete.

It was the same story for properties in Gulf Shores, and in Perdido Key to the Florida line — the concrete structures had limited damage, according to city officials.
