First CHBC Education Course Draws A Packed House

The public debut of the Concrete Home Building Council's first NAHB JV Education Program, "Building With Insulating Concrete Forms" drew 55 eager builders to Richmond last month. Co-sponsored by the Home Building Association of Richmond and the Virginia Concrete Advisory Council, the eight-hour course attracted experienced and novice ICF builders, as well as a few interested in experimenting with the building type.

The day-long course, taught by Portland Cement Association's Jim Niehoff, provides builders with the ultimate crash course in this emerging building system. Attendees learned information needed to evaluate and start using ICFs, including evaluating whether ICFs make sense for their particular business and how to transition into being an ICF builder. The course also included the advantages and costs of ICF construction, the components and materials used, design, and important business and marketing considerations.

Builders completing "Building with Insulating Concrete Forms" received credits toward earning an NAHB University of Housing designation.

"Building with Insulating Concrete Forms" is available for any local or state HBA to present to its members. The next scheduled course presentation will be Thursday, November 10, following the Building Systems Councils SHOWCASE event and trade show. [ return to top ]
