The New Cement & Concrete Thesaurus
The PCA Cement and Concrete Thesaurus, a list of accepted terminology for all aspects of cement and concrete, can now be accessed on the PCA Library’s web page, http://www.cement.org/Library/lb_thesaurus.asp.
If you are an author or editor of a cement- or concrete-related research paper and need to assign keywords, or you are indexing technical information for a database or other resource, the Thesaurus can be a very handy tool. Its primary purpose is to ensure that terminology is applied consistently, so that users can retrieve the information accurately and efficiently.
As an example, a report on the use of silica fume in concrete might be keyworded “silica fume” by one person, “microsilica” by another. By using only one “authorized” term consistently, we ensure accurate retrieval.
The software for the online Thesaurus also allows authors to conveniently cut and paste selected terms into their writing as needed. See under “How to Use” on the Thesaurus page for more detailed instructions. The Thesaurus is (and always will be) a “work in progress,” due to the continuous introduction of new materials and technologies.
