Ed Sauter Named One of the Top 10 Most Influential People in the Concrete Industry

The September 2005 issue of Concrete Construction listed the top "10 Most Influential People in the Concrete Industry", and one of our CHBC members was named, Ed Sauter, Concrete Homes Council/Concrete Foundation Association/Tilt-Up Concrete Association.

"Those we did choose epitomize the streaks of greatness that run througout this industry." William Palmer, Editor in Chief Concrete Construction, stated, "These are 10 people with incredible dedication and respect for concrete and what it can do: people with vision, who can see past their own day-to-day problems to soaring concrete buildings or to concrete slabs that remain perfect forever or to project teams that work together harmoniously."

Sauter's quiet, patient leadership is what made him one of the top ten. Trained as an architect, Sauter started his own buisness after graduating from college, focusng on energy-efficient buildings that he hoped would be easy to construct. "During my college years I worked as a laborer for contractors, so when I became an architect I wondered how easy it would be for contractors to build my designs," he said.

Sauter started as the director of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association in 1992 and has since also taken on the Concrete Foundation Associaiton and the Concrete Homes Council. All of these groups are thriving orgainizations. The membership is growing and the groups are always taking on projects to benefit the industry.

"None of this happens by chance, but Sauter's quiet leadership makes it look easy." Congratulations Ed and thank you for also playing a large role in the Concrete Home Building Council.

The other nine candidates were: The Repair Contractor: Peter Emmons, Structural Group; The tall-Building Designer: Bill Baker, SOM; The Architect: Tadao Ando; The Structural Engineer: James Cagley, Cagley & Associates; The Innovator: Jack Cooney, Somero Enterprises; The Teacher: Ken Hover, Cornell University; The Contractor: Mike Schneider, Baker Concrete; The Materials Expert: Jim Shilstone, Shilstone Companies; The Floors Expert: Eldon TIpping, Structural Services.

Insulating Concrete Form Association's 2005 Excellence Award
Jim Niehoff, Portland Cement Association, was awarded the ICFA's 2005 Excellence Award at the ICFA Fall meeting in Indianapolis, IN.

"It's nice to see when hard work and enthusiasm for the ICF industry is officially recognized by the leading trade association for the ICF industry," CHBC chairman Mike Weber stated. "And it has been a pleasure having Jim a part of the PCA Residential Department. I look forward to continued success as we work together in promoting cement-based building systems and products."
