Year in Review for the Concrete Home Building Council
Success in 2005 Will Take Concrete Higher in 2006!

I always enjoy this time of year for reflecting on accomplishments, while looking forward to the future and what it has in store. Last year when I drafted this article, I was excited about the 2004 accomplishments of the Concrete Home Building Council (CHBC). Needless to say, 2005 was an even more productive year showing strong growth in membership, and increases in the number of CHBC activities. Our first Concrete Technologies Tour, with over 100 registered attendees, was an outstanding success with plans for the second tour to be held in Phoenix, Arizona on June 11-13, 2006. We launched two new education programs in 2005, exceeding our projections for attendees successfully completing the courses.

We are currently developing four new programs, under the guidance of NAHB’s Home Builders Institute (HBI), which will be available for delivery at the local level by March 2006. These new programs serve to educate and train Builders, Superintendents, and Skilled/Unskilled workers across the country. Initially, they will likely support NAHB members in the Gulf Region affected by recent hurricanes as rebuilding efforts focus on cement-based wall systems and concrete products capable of withstanding hurricane force winds. Many CHBC members and NAHB Staff are working hard at reviewing these education materials for delivery at the earliest possible date.

I wish all of you a Happy Holiday and look forward to working with you during another exciting year as we move into 2006.

Sincerely,

Michael H. Weber
