Residential Concrete Remains Solid at World of Concrete
The Concrete Home Building Council joined the 60,000+ attendees from around the world at the 2009 World of Concrete in the Las Vegas Convention Center February 2 - 6. In the South Hall, attendees gathered at the CHBC Exhibit Booth to learn more about the residential concrete industry. In the North Hall, over students participated in the CHBC’s following classes:
Residential Concrete Mix Designs, Troubleshooting and Guidelines
This new seminar covered mix design basics for concrete used in residential foundations, walls, driveways and sidewalks, garage and basement floors. Topics included proportions, aggregate gradations, cement content, water to cement ratio, slump and adjustments, strength, and air entrainment. Attendees received a pre-construction checklist, ordering tips, placing techniques and tips for evaluating the mix.
Best Practices for Concrete Pavers and Segmental Retaining Wall Systems
This course gave design professionals and contractors a thorough knowledge of design and construction practices for interlocking concrete pavements and segmental concrete retaining walls, both high-growth and high-value hardscaping systems. Industry guidelines focused on residential construction with some commercial applications. The course provided critical items to execute and check on site for consistent quality control and quality assurance for long-lasting performance.
Insulating Concrete Forms Installation
ICF session was designed to provide the participant with thorough information and basic skills in the correct construction of walls using insulating concrete forms. Attendees learned about the materials and products involved, the critical aspects of wall design, assembly and the steps to building walls correctly and efficiently.
