Trump This: Project Conversion in Vegas

In between firing candidates on “The Apprentice,” Donald Trump has found time to join the crowd building high-rise buildings in Las Vegas. Never one to be outdone, Trump’s plans call for 24-karat golden glass to adorn the 64-story hotel/condominium concrete tower on the Strip.

The Clark County Commission recently approved the plans, and barring approval difficulties with the FAA, the $300 million project is expected to begin construction in early 2005. Designer Joel Bergman, of Bergman, Walls and Associates, expects to complete the project in roughly two years.

The 1.6 million sq ft structure will consist of 1,092 hotel-style units and 110 condominium apartments with all the amenities imaginable, a high-end spa, restaurants, and potentially a casino. Structural engineering firm Martin and Peltyn Associates recommended the concrete scheme: post-tension plate floor systems and a lateral system moment frame.

PCA’s Attila Beres and CHBC member, Rich Warren of the Southern Nevada Concrete and Aggregates Association have been working closely with the consulting firms on the Trump project. PCA is assisting with a regular series of concrete seminars in Las Vegas in collaboration with the local Structural Engineers Association. Promotional efforts are in full force in the competitive Vegas market where the steel industry also has an aggressive presence.
