Preventing Moisture and Mold
Concrete Floors and Moisture, a new 164-page book from PCA, explores how to prevent unwanted moisture in concrete floors—a problem causing millions of dollars in damage to buildings annually in the United States. Problems from excessive moisture include deterioration and debonding of floor coverings, trip-and-fall hazards, microbial growth leading to reduced indoor air quality, staining, and deterioration of building finishes.

Understanding moisture in concrete leads to design of floors and flooring systems that provide excellent service for many years. Authored by CTL's Howard Kanare, the book discusses sources of moisture, drying of concrete, methods of measuring moisture, construction practices, specifications, and responsibilities for successful floor projects. Durand Forms is pleased to introduce the Classic 94 Smooth
This new form offers poured wall contractors many features they've wanted, all in one form—rigidity, long life, less weight and less pillowing. The Classic 94 Smooth was designed by Durand professional engineers and assisted by staff with years of experience in pouring concrete walls. The process was enhanced by the use of computer-aided modeling.

This new form incorporates side, top and bottom rail extrusions, which are strong, yet lightweight and allow the face sheet to be inset to protect the edges. The extruded shape of the horizontal stiffeners minimizes the span between touch points on the face sheet and reduces pillowing. To make wedge removal easier, Durand made Spring Tension Bushings optional. Field-testing results of the Classic 94 Smooth have been overwhelmingly positive.
Visit Durand Forms for more details on The Classic 94 Smooth.

PCA Has a New Tech Brief
The Portland Cement Association recently published a tech brief, Technology Brief: Concrete Basements, to inform the building industry and consumers of the value in having a concrete basement.

The breif describes why basements are built with concrete, what quality construction practices to look for, and the various types of cement based systems available to build with. The brief is designed in a single page format and written in a non-technical style. Visit the PCA Bookstore to get your free downloaded copy today.
