Cast-in-Place Concrete Foundations
This half day course offers home builders the information they need to evaluate site conditions, work with concrete, and construct and maintain the foundation walls. It discusses proper excavation techniques, safety considerations, and water management procedures. The course also covers the logistics of cast-in-place concrete foundation construction with references to design standards and code requirements. Included are construction details and discussions of common field practices.

Building With Insulating Concrete Forms
This full-day course provides the traditional home builder with the information needed to evaluate and start using ICFs. This includes the information to understand ICFs, judge whether ICF construction makes sense for the builder’s business, and learn how to make the transition. The course covers the advantages and costs of ICF construction, the components and materials used, design and planning considerations, the logistics of ICF construction, and important business and marketing considerations. Included are the details of constructing walls out of ICFs, as well as the option of constructing floor and roof decks with ICFs, and the things the other trades must do to mesh their work with the ICF walls.

CFA Regional Conference Coming to Pennsylvania
The Western Pennsylvania Concrete Foundations Association (WPCFA) will host the second Concrete Foundations Association (CFA) Regional Conference on Friday and Saturday, September 16-17, at the Embassy Suites Hotel Pittsburgh International Airport in Coraopolis, PA.
The regional conference is a two-day event that will offer educational seminars. The first day will hold concurrent tracks for code officials/inspectors (The ACI 332 Resdintial Concrete Code & How Cold Weather Incluences Residential Construction) and home builders (NAHB's Cast-in-Place Concrete Foundations course). The second day will have the same type of schedule, but be geared toward management/owners and workers in the poured wall industry. Topics include form theft, safety, liability, sub-contracts and more. Educational seminars start at 8:00 a.m. and end with a tradeshow reception from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
The cost of the seminar is $175 for CFA individual members and $125 for additional attendees within the company. Nonmember price is $250 for individuals and $175 for additional registrants. Lunch is provided.
The WPCFA is local chapter of the CFA, a voluntary, nonprofit association that brings together concrete contractors and professionals nationwide to improve the quality of cast-in-place concrete walls and foundations.
