BUILD-PAC Chair Announces Launch of E-Newsletter
Dear BUILD-PAC Members,
First off, thank you for your generous support of BUILD-PAC. Without you, we would not have had the incredible success that we had last cycle and would not be well on our way to achieving our $4 million 2005-2006 cycle goal.

My fellow BUILD-PAC officers and I are proud to announce the launch of BUILD-PAConnection, BUILD-PAC's first electronic newsletter.  Each BUILD-PAC contributor for whom we have an e-mail address  for will receive the newsletter on a bi-weekly basis.  BUILD-PAConnection will feature articles on fundraising, events, Congressional races and political news. In addition, in each BUILD-PAConnection issue we will recognize the names of all Gold Key, Platinum and Capitol Club members.

We hope you will find BUILD-PAConnection a useful and informative resource.  If you have any suggestions on general content or would like to suggest a story or recognize an outstanding BUILD-PAC contributor or volunteer, please contact Denise Mills, ASVP, BUILD-PAC at 800-368-5242 x 8459 or by e-mail at dmills@nahb.com.

Thank you for your continued support as we strive to reach our $4 million cycle goal.

BUILD-PAC Sets Records at the 2005 Spring Board Meeting

It was evident on Wednesday, April 13th that BUILD-PAC, a key to the NAHB advocacy efforts, opens doors on Capitol Hill. Over 850 builders, many of whom are BUILD-PAC contributors, attended NAHB's Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. State delegations stormed the hill fighting for our legislative priorities.

The rest of the week, which included NAHB's Spring Board Meeting, was quite successful for BUILD-PAC, as well. Whether it was at the Advocacy Booth, the area caucuses, meetings or at the BUILD-PAC Club events, there was definitely a buzz in the air about BUILD-PAC. Close to $90,000 was raised at this year's Spring Board meeting.

"This was by far the most successful BUILD-PAC fundraising effort for BUILD-PAC I have seen at any board meeting," said Bob Yatko, BUILD-PAC first vice chairman.

BUILD-PAC has a $4 million goal for the 2005-2006 election cycle. If you would like to help BUILD-PAC reach this goal by making a contribution, hosting a fundraising event or simply like information on BUILD-PAC, please contact Bhavna Pandit, Director of Finance, at 202-266-8259 or bpandit@nahb.com.[return to top]

Gold Key Season Opener Hits Home Run for BUILD-PAC

The 2005 Gold Key Spring Board Dinner Dance took place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 15. The dinner, which kicked off the 2005 baseball theme, was a great success.

Club members were greeted with “Take Me out to the Ballgame” and sat at tables adorned with baseball themed floral centerpieces. Members danced through the evening to the tunes of a six-member band. A great time was had by all.

BUILD-PAC has an ambitious $4 million goal this election cycle. To help meet this goal Mak Koebig, the 2005 Gold Key Club Chairman, thought a baseball theme would help create some excitement around achieving the goal.  "The Gold Key Party turned out to be quite an affair and went into extra innings. Build-PAC was the big winner scoring base hits and getting a number of new rookies into the game and we look forward to the continuing competition and the next big game in Reno. We have a long way to reach our goal, but I am confident, after the success of this meeting that we will do it," commented Koebig.

Consistent with the baseball theme, Koebig created a baseball-themed recruitment competition among BUILD-PAC MVP’s; the Capitol, Platinum and Gold Key Club members. The BUILD-PAC MVP’s who recruited a New Gold Key were named BUILD-PAC All-Stars and were recognized at the Gold Key Spring Board Dinner Dance last Friday night. There were five BUILD-PAC MVP’s who entered the competition, each recruiting one New Gold Key member.

The first BUILD-PAC All-Stars are:

  • Bob Hanson (MN)
  • Lance Johnson (AZ.)
  • Bruce Kevil (NE.)
  • Dorothy LaFitte (SC)
  • Peter Merrill (NM)

The Gold Key Club is off to a great start, beginning the year with a record 900 Gold Key Club members. At the end of Spring Board there were 27 New Gold Keys.  Gold Key Chairman, Mak Koebig is confident we will have 1100 Gold Keys by the end of the year.

The BUILD-PAC All-Star competition will continue through Fall Board. Look for more details in upcoming issues of BUILD-PAConnection. For more information contact Wendy Perez, BUILD-PAC finance manager, at 800-368-5242 x8289 or e-mail wperez@nahb.com.

Capitol Club Members Enjoy an Evening of Culinary Delights at the Watergate Hotel

Capitol Club Members were welcomed with open arms to the world-renowned Watergate Hotel on Saturday, April 16, where they experienced an evening of culinary delight.

The evening began with cocktails and music in the classic Crescent Room. Capitol Club members were treated to a multiple-course meal with wine pairings from the kitchen of Aquarelle’s Executive Chef Christophe Poteaux, who has also entertained former President George H.W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

The gracious host for the evening, 2005 Capitol Club Chairman Steve Cates, gave a warm welcome to BUILD-PAC's most generous supporters. Cates recognized NAHB President Dave Wilson, First Vice President David Pressly, Vice President & Treasurer Brian Catalde, and Vice President & Secretary Sandy Dunn in the audience.

During dinner, Cates and former BUILD-PAC Chair Bob Neilson entertained the group with an exciting induction of seven new Capitol Club members. “We were pleased to welcome these seven new members to the club. We also gladly welcome prospective Capitol Club members to the dinner with the hopes they will be inducted the same night,” said Cates.

While the Capitol Club members enjoyed their conversation, laughter, food and wine, comedian Jimmy Tingle made an appearance. He closed out the dinner with a special performance of political and social satire.
