Designation Upkeep: Amnesty Year 2006
In every industry only a few stand out. By being a CGR, you are setting yourself apart from other remodelers. Your superior credentials continually show customers that you are the most qualified and capable for the job. For these reasons the CGR Board of Governors is committed to ensuring that the CGR program remains THE designation in the industry.
Maintaining the designation has two components; the annual renewal fee of $50 for NAHB members or $75 for non-members, and the Continuing Education requirement. The CGRs receive a notice from the NAHB University of Housing each year.
For the second component, CGRs are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education every three years. Six hours must be earned by attending one full-day NAHB University of Housing course or participating in the NAHB 20 Clubs Program; the remaining six hours can be completed by attending trade shows or earning another professional designation.

Amnesty Plan
If you know that your peers have not renewed, encourage them to come back. 2006 has been declared an Amnesty year so that those CGRs who have let their membership expire may pay a $100 reinstatement fee, take one course with the first 12 months, and complete the continuing education cycle in three years from paying the reinstatement fee rather than going through the entire process again.
The 2006 Amnesty was approved by the Remodelors Council Board of Trustees at their most recent meeting as a result of the CGR Board of Governors concern for those CGRs that have expired. If an expired designation is intentionally used serious lawsuits could arise.
On a more positive note, we would like to reintroduce the value and benefits that comes with being a CGR to those that have been away for a while. In brief we have better speakers, a program called Train the Trainer, a review of the program every 3 years, ongoing revisions to the courses, better billing and record keeping, and more. Take advantage of Amnesty Year and see for yourself. We would love to have you.
