Editor... Mike Nagel, CGR In this issue: Letter From the ChairCan you believe it? Our first CGR e-newsletter. We’ve come a long way in our 15 years of existence. We hope you will find this issue both informative and easy to use. Please feel free to e-mail us with any comments or suggestions you may have. Also, forward this to anyone you feel may be interested in becoming a part of our program or even your customers to help promote CGR and it’s benefits to them. Hi, I’m Michael Nagel, CGR, CAPS, your newly elected chairman of the CGR Board of Governors for 2004. For those of you that do not know me I am a Design/Build remodeling contractor from Roselle, IL, a western suburb of Chicago. I have been in business since 1985 specializing in residential and commercial renovation work. My involvement on a national level in the Remodelors Council, though it seems only yesterday, began in the early '90s when Tom Schwartz, CGR and Jim Quinley, CGR were national chairman and vice chairman respectively. I was invited by Tom to join the leadership in a strategic planning session in St. Michaels, MD and I was hooked. Since then I’ve chaired the Remodelors Council Public Affairs Committee, the Remodelers' Show advisory board twice, served two terms as a Remodelors Council trustee and am a national life director. Why am I telling you this? Two reasons: I need you to feel confident in my ability and commitment to being chairman of the CGR Board of Governors as we plan to expand our presence in the industry and most importantly because of you. By earning the letters CGR, you have distinguished yourself as the elite of our industry and have shown your thirst for knowledge and continued education is paramount to your future in this great and growing profession. But don’t stop there. A vast majority of the national Remodelors Council leaders are CGRs, the best of the best. It’s true; involvement on the national level is time consuming, costly and demanding. It’s also true that the involvement is rewarding and fun. Please consider this involvement as part of your continuing education and dedication to the industry - and just do it! Fresh minds and faces are always welcome. Our next meeting is April 29; during the NAHB Spring Boards in Washington, DC. For more NAHB Spring Board information visit the NAHB Remodelors Council Web pages. As chairman, I can tell you that the CGR board is ready to serve your needs. Current projects include the review of the PREP, better ways to promote our designation program (including a new design of the Why Hire a CGR brochure), collaboration with the CAPS program and the Remodelors Council Public Affairs Committee, CGR course revision and more involvement by the manufacturing side of the equation. Any input or questions you may have are always welcome. Please contact me with your suggestions. The CGR Board of Governors is here to help. Have a great year,
