Bob Peterson, CGR, CAPS In this issue: CGR Spotlight: Lawrence Murr, CGR, CAPS
The project was a true testimonial to the importance of using a professional, especially when you’re tackling a tricky remodel. For this particular project, Murr actually had to seek approval from the Riverside Avondale Preservation Society (RAP) before even requesting a permit from the city to renovate. And though the majority of the work was interior, Murr was challenged to create an entrance and walkway to match that of the surrounding tenants. “It looks like it was supposed to be there all along,” he says of the renovations.
The project also helped the client conserve a little piece of history – in the midst of remodeling, Murr’s crew discovered that the original tenant, Allen Brothers Grocery Store, had imprinted its name in the floor tile covering the entryway. To preserve the charm, Murr framed the tile with carpet, so every patient is welcomed with a mark of Riverside history.
“There’s a lot that goes into remodeling,” Murr explains. It’s ideal, he says, to have solid management that can oversee the entire project, from planning and obtaining permits to adding the finishing touches. And when those final touches are complete, the transformation is amazing.
