Industry Recognition

The Custom Electronic Design Installation Association (CEDIA) Electronic Lifestyles® Awards honor excellence on technical and design/aesthetic aspects of technology installation projects in the residential electronic systems industry. Project categories include Best Home Theater, Best Media Room, Best Integrated Home, Best Special Project, Best Hidden Installation and Best Dressed System. Winners are selected by two panels of judges, a technical team made up of five CEDIA residential electronic systems contractor members, and a design team comprised of members from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

The HTA Update will feature an award winner to highlight one of the projects in each issue. Each member involved in these projects – the architect, builder, interior designer, and electronic systems contractor (ESC) – played an integral part to the finished product. As with any industry, developing partnerships is a clear way to expand your business by being able to offer more options to clients.

Feature Essay:

A rich blend of Indian and Japanese art adorned this home, so maintaining aesthetics, controlling ambient and natural light, and eliminating wall clutter were all primary concerns.

The client also wanted simple, yet full control of landscape water features, landscape lighting, the swimming pool and the hot tub. To control the extensive landscape, water and fire features throughout the house, La Scala created a system of custom timers that allow the client to select how long a feature should be active and give feedback as to how long it will remain on.

The control system consists of two-way AMX wired and wireless touchpanels integrating multi-source music, home entertainment controls, lighting controls, security, surveillance cameras, shading as well as a myriad of home controls.

The client is highly engaged in lighting control including motorized shades, and the system ensures easy control of any or all shades in the house. La Scala even programmed an alarm clock feature in AMX that allows the client to use the touchscreen to set a wakeup time and song to start playing at a preset volume.

The Meridian digital solution is installed for the theater system that is virtually used everyday, but by far the most unique aspect of this project is the fog that rolls across the front entry pond, a product of a fog machine activated by a Lutron touchscreen.

Equipment from the following manufacturers was used in this project:

AMX, Extron, MGE, Xantech, Niles, HAI, D-Link, Panasonic, Altronix, Paradox, Panasonic, Optex, Sentrol, BRK, Channel Plus, Silent Witness, Middle Atlantic, Ronot, Blonder-Tongue, Lutron, Denon, RPG, ADA, AudioControl, Meridian, M&K, JVC, Stewart Filmscreen, Front Row, MGE, Arrakis, Sharp, Hitachi, and Surgex.
