Upcoming Conference on Land Use, Discrimination, and the Fair Housing Act
In conjunction with our Fall Board of Directors meeting in Columbus, OH, NAHB will be hosting a conference on Land Use, Discrimination and the Fair Housing Act. To encourage the availability of affordable housing, we would like to spend some time with the LANDS attorneys to look at possible federal and state lawsuits to ensure that traditional land use actions — like zoning requirements, text amendments, and permit denials for multi-family or high-density projects — do not cause discriminatory impacts in violation of Fair Housing Act. In traditional LANDS format, we will explore the Act and the issues related to building solid litigation, look at possible locations and cases around the country, and look at various litigation strategies related to the issue.
The program will be on Thursday, September 30, 2004, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Columbus. If you would like to attend, please respond to Aaron Cluka by e-mail acluka@nahb.com or call him at 800-368-5242 x8335. Letting us know of your plans to join us will ensure that you receive more details and a packet of reading materials in advance.
