  Welcome New LANDS Members!

Sumner F. Kalman is the principal in the law firm of Sumner F. Kalman, Attorney at Law, P.C. located in Plaistow, New Hampshire. He is a member of the New Hampshire Bar, the U. S. District of New Hampshire and the U. S. District of Massachusetts and the U. S. Supreme Court.

Mr. Kalman represents clients in land use matters, including residential, commercial and industrial approvals, with a special interest in inverse condemnation and impact fee issues. He has served on the faculty of the New Hampshire Bar Association CLE concerning municipal-land use law issues, most recently teaching in the area of growth control and impact fees. Mr. Kalman has appeared before the New Hampshire Superior Court on several significant land use cases.

He is a graduate of University of New Hampshire and Suffolk University Law School and is a member of the Rockingham County, New Hampshire and American Bar Associations, as well as, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.

Thea S. Valvanis is an associate in the law firm of Sumner F. Kalman, Attorney at Law, PC, in Plaistow, New Hampshire, which represents municipalities and numerous builders and developers. Ms. Valvanis focuses her practice on land use/development, inverse condemnation, growth management/impact fees and zoning and has argued before the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

Ms. Valvanis is a graduate of Massachusetts School of Law and holds a Bachelors degree from Tufts University and is admitted to the New Hampshire and Massachusetts Bars, and the U.S. District Court.  She also is a 2004 Boston Marathon finisher!

Aaron G. March is a shareholder in the Kansas City law firm of White Goss Bowers March Schulte & Weisenfels, P.C.  His areas of practice include land use and zoning, urban development and development incentives.  Mr. March primarily represents clients who wish to bring new business, expand existing business or construct new facilities in Missouri and Kansas.  Mr. March received his quadruple major A.B. degree, cum laude from Washington University and his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. 

Mr. March works with city, county and state officials to obtain the approvals necessary for development to occur, including the approval of public assistance programs, such as tax increment financing and enterprise zone designations, rezonings and the issuance of building permits.  Some of Mr. March’s recent clients include International Speedway Corporation, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lidia’s Cuccina, ABN AMRO, Branson Landing and Waddell & Reed.

Mr. March is a member of The Missouri Bar, the American Bar Association, the Urban Land Institute, the American Planning Association, and the Missouri Economic Development Financing Association.  Mr. March is an avid cyclist and has traveled throughout the world on his bike.

Dave Lanferman is a member of the Real Estate, Land Use and Environmental practice group in Sheppard Mullin's San Francisco office where his practice emphasizes development processing and entitlements, CEQA and land use litigation.  His expertise includes environmental review of development proposals, mitigation, impact and development fees and exactions, counseling residential and commercial developers, as well as public agencies, on project review and conditions of project approval.  Mr. Lanferman is a member of the editorial board of the California Real Estate Reporter, and former chair of the Real Estate Section of the Alameda County Bar Association.

Lisabeth Rothman brings more than 20 years of litigation and appellate experience to her legal practice at Hatch & Parent. Ms. Rothman represents both private and public clients in all aspects of land use and environmental law, including complex and cutting-edge issues involving the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Subdivision Map Act, and private attorney general fee awards.  She is a graduate of Columbia University Law School, received her M.A. from the California School of Professional Psychology, and earned a B.A. from Pomona College.  Ms. Rothman is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the State Bar of California and admitted to practice in front of the United States Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Court, Central, Southern, and Northern Districts of California.
