Updates from The 2008 New American Home

25th Anniversary of The New American Home©

For a quarter of a century, The New American Home© (TNAH) has been the centerpiece of the world’s largest housing industry conference, providing a laboratory-like environment that combines the latest in architectural concepts, interior designs, construction techniques and building product applications.

The 10,963-square-foot house (6,725 sq. ft. living area) is located in the beautiful city of Orlando’s Lake Nona Golf and Country Club some 20 minutes from the Orange County Convention Center. This conveniently located private sanctuary of luxury real estate is set against rolling fairways, lush landscaping and wooded conservation areas, which offer a wealth of world-class amenities nestled along the shores of one of Orlando's most pristine group of lakes.

The New American Home '08 is being built by Charlie and Judy Robertson of Robertson Homes, Inc. and was designed by The Sater Group under the direction of Dan Sater. The interior design and furnishing are by the design team of Ron Nowfel and Jessica Iaconis with Robb & Stucky Interiors of Altamonte Springs, Fla.

But TNAH ’08 is more than views, it is a “green house,” reflecting the scientific input of the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) and IBACOS, the Pittsburgh-based research facility retained by the U. S. Department of Energy to assist the project task force. The house will reflect the newest in high-tech wiring systems, the latest in recently developed appliances, breakthrough insulation applications and interior treatments that minimize ambient heat conditions. Not only is the house set to become certified "green" and “Energy Star” rated, but it is almost 100 percent wheelchair accessible, so that an owner could age in the home and it is set . The efforts that make this an energy-efficient “green house” contribute to the lowest consumption of energy (and the resulting low energy bills) to be found in a house of this size.

TNAH 2008 is a living textbook on the form, function and philosophy of the contemporary American housing product; a project that will be featured in BUILDER magazine, American Dream Homes, HGTV, newspapers all over the country, and product advertising for years to come.  The New American Home is co-sponsored by the National Council of the Housing Industry (NCHI) and BUILDER magazine.
