Editor... In this issue: New American Home Program Keeps on GivingThe iconic show houses of the 2007 International Builders’ Show – The New American Home and The Renewed American Home – moved into the second phase of their mission by raising in excess of $23,000 for the HBA of Metro Orlando charitable foundation. With access to the houses limited to IBS attendees during the show, the houses were opened to the public for guided tours during the two weekends after IBS left Orlando. HBA members staffed the unique structures as thousands of visitors from the Central Florida region inspected every nook and cranny. The pair of side-by-side houses -- which dazzled industry professionals and received an overwhelming reception from the world-wide press corps – provide an outstanding example of more than a century of American architecture. The Renewed house is a rehabilitated residence built in 1909; the New house is a state-of-the-art experience that speaks of the 22nd century.“We were delighted that the builders, Carmen Dominquez and Stephen Gidus, made the homes available to us”, said Ann Hagen, president of the Mid-Florida Home Builders Foundation. “The revenue the tours generated will go a long way in supporting our efforts in the classrooms of the elementary school our association has adopted.”The New American Home program, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2008, is a project of NAHB’s National Council of the Housing Industry. NCHI members provide most of the products and much of the technical support to the annual enterprise which demonstrates the newest ideas on the American housing scene.
