SMC Stands Out With Education and Community Involvement
The Triangle SMC of Raleigh-Durham, N.C. again captured the Gold Award for Best SMC Over 500 Members at the 2005 The Nationals — the National Sales and Marketing Awards during IBS.

The Triangle SMC has proven year after year that solid educational program and a commitment to the community and new home industry will grow membership and create a successful, strong SMC.

A commitment to the IRM curriculum is evident by glancing at the educational calendar for the Triangle SMC. By offering all four IRM courses, CSP twice, and House Construction as a Selling Tool, the SMC provides the chance for all members to pursue IRM designations and expand their members’ knowledge base. This year, the SMC plans to offer the Master CSP curriculum as well. Through these courses not only does the SMC show it’s commitment to education, but they also build non-dues revenue and membership recruitment opportunities.

An innovative part of their educational program is that the SMC offers three scholarships for SMC members to take all four IRM courses, CSP or House Construction as a Selling Tool. Additionally, the SMC offers a refund to anyone who takes all four IRM courses in one year — offering an incentive to pursue the CMP and MIRM designations.

The Triangle SMC’s philosophy is to look for new ways to serve the community that has given so much to the SMC members. Each year they participate in the Habitat for Humanity Builder Blitz, and they fund a scholarship program for local graduating seniors going into construction related fields. They also have a program where members volunteer in a local school.

Not only do they believe in serving the community, but they also work to promote the new homes industry. By coordinating cross-promotional activities with the Board of Realtors®, the Triangle SMC builds their relationship with Realtors®, while promoting the new home industry. They coordinate a Parade of Homes bus tour for brokers and held a wine tasking for SMC members and brokers to network!

The Triangle SMC proves year after year that their SMC is one of the tops through their events, education, promotion, community service, and membership recruitment and retention. Congratulations to the staff, volunteers, and members of the Triangle SMC.
