NAHB Awards to Recognize Philanthropic Work

To recognize the enormous philanthropic work of home builders associations and their members, NAHB and the National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, are sponsoring two awards programs that honor the generosity of the home building industry:
  • The National Housing Endowment Home Builders Care Project of the Year Award is open to home builder associations and councils affiliated with NAHB. The annual program recognizes an outstanding community service project developed and implemented by a local or state HBA or council affiliated with NAHB. Winners will receive a $5,000 donation directed to the charity of their choice and be recognized at the International Builders’ Show.

The deadline for entries is Nov. 4.

  • The National Housing Endowment Builder Achievement Award for Outstanding Community Service Award is open to builder, developer, and remodeler members of NAHB and honors their exceptional philanthropic endeavors.

To be considered for this award, the community service project should be completed before Nov. 18. In addition, the project must:
    - Meet a defined and demonstrated community need
    - Succeed in motivating other NAHB members and/or company staff to participate
    - Be a project that can be replicated by other builders

Entries are due by Nov. 18.
Complete award descriptions and entry forms for both competitions are available on the NAHB Web site at www.nahb.org.

Protect Your Workers...and Your Profits

The failure to properly train workers is one of the top 15 most frequently cited OSHA standards in residential construction and could cost a company up to $7,000 for a single serious violation.

The new English-Spanish Jobsite Safety Video, developed by NAHB, provides an overview of the key safety issues residential builders and workers need to focus on in order to reduce accidents and injuries and to comply with OSHA regulations. The Jobsite Safety Video is based on the popular “NAHB-OSHA Jobsite Safety Handbook,” and both can be used to form an essential, comprehensive residential construction safety-training program.

The Jobsite Safety Video is available as two 20-minute videos — one in English, the other in Spanish — on one DVD. The English-Spanish Jobsite Safety Video covers the following topics:

  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Housekeeping
  • Lifting Safety
  • Stairways and Ladders
  • Scaffolding
  • Fall Protection
  • Trenching and Excavation
  • Tools and Equipment
  • Vehicles/Mobile Equipment
  • Electrical Safety
  • Fire Prevention
  • Hazard Communication
