 BUILD-PAC Still Going Strong

It hasn’t been easy, but with expanding support from the NAHB membership, BUILD-PAC, NAHB’s political action committee, has currently raised nearly $2.7 million within the 2005-2006 Election Cycle.  With five months remaining, BUILD-PAC is well on its way toward raising its overall goal of $4 million.

BUILD-PAC, is recognized as one of the most influential PACs in Washington, DC.  Since its inception, BUILD-PAC has raised millions of dollars of personal contributions for housing-friendly candidates running for federal office.  BUILD-PAC is bipartisan and supports candidates with a demonstrated commitment to:

  • Reducing government regulations
  • Lowering taxes
  • Working for sound environmental policies
  • Limiting or eliminating tariffs on building materials
  • Improving housing affordability and homeownership opportunities
  • Supporting small business issues

The BUILD-PAC Board of Trustees, which is made up of more than 90 members, meets three times a year to decide where BUILD-PAC funds should be disbursed.  Their decision is based on a rating system for each federal candidate, ensuring that all funds raised go toward candidates that will support NAHB’s bottom line.

“At the pace we are going, we will undoubtedly reach the goal, but we can’t let our guard down.  A lot can happen between now and November,” said Mak Koebig, 2006 BUILD-PAC Chairman.

Last year, NAHB’s National Sales & Marketing Council showed their support for BUILD-PAC by raising approximately $14,000.  Plans are already underway for NSMC to host another fundraising drive on BUILD-PAC’s behalf.  Currently, only 2.7% of NAHB members contribute to BUILD-PAC, but BUILD-PAC hopes to increase this number by the end of the year.
