  New IRM President Inducted into NAHB Society of Honored Associates

In honor of his outstanding commitment to the building industry, Hal Von Nessen, MIRM of Columbia, S.C. was recently inducted into the prestigious Society of Honored Associates of the National Association on Home Builders (NAHB).  Mr. Von Nessen was inducted during the Associates Awards Breakfast on Thursday, February 8 during the International Builders’ Show™ in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Von Nessen is the Founder and CEO of RESH Marketing Consultants, a firm that provides marketing assistance to various industries including tourism, home building, and land development.  His local involvement with the HBA of Greater Columbia includes Chairing the 2003 Scholarship Selection Committee, the program of which he helped establish, and serving as President of the HBA’s charitable foundation from 2001 to 2004.  Additionally, Mr. Von Nessen was a member of the Remodelors Council from 2000 – 2004, and is a Charter Member of the Sales & Marketing Council beginning in 1990.  He also received the Sales & Marketing Chairman’s Award in 1993 and 2002.

At the state level, Mr. Von Nessen serves as a Trustee of the South Carolina Builders Hall of Fame and has spoken numerous times at the state convention.  He also received the President’s Keystone award in 2004.  Nationally, Mr. Von Nessen served as the Education Committee Chair of the Institute of Residential Marketing (IRM).  He is also serving as the 2007 President of the Institute.  Presently, he is a Member of the Board of Trustees for the National Sales & Marketing Council and the IRM.  Mr. Von Nessen is an IRM faculty member certified to teach all IRM courses offered by NAHB’s University of Housing. 

Mr. Von Nessen is an active member of various professional organizations including the Columbia Advertising Club (1990 Silver Medal Recipient), American Advertising Association, and the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society.  He was also a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of South Carolina and served as an adjunct professor and faculty coordinator at the Columbia campus of Webster University in St. Louis, Mo.  Mr. Von Nessen’s contributions span various areas and he has been a tremendous contributor to each of them. 

The NAHB Society of Honored Associates was established in 1983 to recognize associate members who have distinguished themselves by outstanding contributions on the local, state and national levels to the home building industry and the association.  Each state is invited to submit one nomination for the award.  Entries are judged on association and membership activities, industry accomplishments, and civic responsibility.  Judges select the most outstanding nominees, who are inducted into the NAHB Society of Honored Associates.  The top candidate is named NAHB Associate of the Year.  For more information on the Society of Honored Associates, please contact Betty Ann Thweatt at (800) 368-5242, ext. 8246 or at bthweatt@nahb.com.
