Get Involved in "Revive Housing Now" Campaign
Tell Them Housing is the Only Way to Create Jobs and Revitalize the Economy

With Congress focused on health care as lawmakers adjourn for their month-long August recess, the home building industry needs to send lawmakers an urgent message: Don’t forget about housing!
For this effort to be successful, housing’s voice must be heard loud and clear: YOU MUST GET INVOLVED!
NAHB has created a set of resources to help you at www.nahb.org/revivehousingnow. Here’s what you need to do:
-
Learn the facts. This one-page summary provides a quick glance at the issues, with more specific information on each issue available in this more detailed summary. You can also read the legislative alert that was sent out to NAHB members on August 5, 2009.
-
Tell your members of Congress to support the legislative proposals listed above by calling 866-924-6242 (NAHB) or by emailing them a letter. This link connects you to an editable template letter to help you get started. Be sure to add personal anecdotes that relay how the housing downturn has impacted you, your family, your community and your business.
-
Meet with your members of Congress while they are at home during the August Congressional recess. In-district contact information can be found by following these links to the House and Senate.
-
-
Once you have talked with your members of Congress, please provide feedback on your conversation.
-
Send a letter to the editor of your local newspapers. NAHB has drafted samples for you on AD&C lending restrictions, faulty appraisal practices and how extending the home buyer tax credit will help spur growth in the local housing market.
To help put America back to work and revive today’s struggling economy, legislators should focus specifically on:
-
Extending the $8,000 home buyer tax credit until December 1, 2010 and expanding eligibility to all home buyers;
-
Correcting appraisal practices that are unnecessarily driving down home values;
-
Improving acquisition, development and construction (AD&C) credit conditions; and
-
Co-sponsoring net operating loss relief bills H.R. 2452 in the House and S. 823 in the Senate
If Congress acts to extend the tax credit program, it would spur 383,000 additional home sales, including 80,000 housing starts down the road as additional sales help deplete the inventory of unsold homes. This stimulus will create nearly 350,000 jobs over the coming year. That's good for the economy and good for America.
