Don Novak to Lead Remodelors Council
The gavel was passed during the International Builders Show as 2004 Chairman Doug Sutton, CGR, CAPS of Sutton Siding & Remodeling in Springfield, IL, turned over the reins to Don Novak, CGR, CAPS, CGB of Novak Construction in Cedar Rapids, IA. In his outgoing address Sutton said, “It was a great honor and privilege to serve as chairman in 2004. I am very pleased to turn over the chairmanship to Don. He is a dedicated and responsible friend of the Council and will continue to promote and move forward the Council and the remodeling industry.”

Novak, one of the most certified members in the NAHB federation, has been in the construction industry for more than 45 years. During that time, he has dedicated himself at the local, state and national level to improving the industry. He has been a Greater Cedar Rapids Area HBA member since 1965 and served as the founding chairman of the Cedar Rapids Remodelors Council in 1996 and as chairman of the Council in 1998. He has also been president of the Cedar Rapids Home Builders Association an unprecedented three times. Novak has served as the Iowa City Remodelors Council chairman, sat on the Iowa HBA Board of Directors and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Building Code Board of Appeal including one year serving as chairman.

On the national level Novak sits on the Remodelors Council Education & Business Development, Public Affairs and Membership & Council Development Committees,  is one of the founding members of the Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designation and is a former Remodelors Council trustee. In 2002, he was named the Remodelors Council Remodelor of the Year.

Novak said his leadership team’s focus this year will be membership and education. “As chairman of the Remodelors Council, my focus will be educating our members on the importance of education and involvement in the Remodelors Council,” Novak said. “As the industry continues to evolve and expand, it will be our members leading the industry by upholding the highest business standards.”
