Remodelors Council on CBS Evening News, Front Page of USA Today
The CBS Evening News and USA Today recently featured the NAHB Remodelors Council and the Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation. The front page story in the nation’s most-read newspaper and the special CBS Evening News segment follows a host of national attention that includes the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Time Magazine, and CNN American Morning among others.
Both CBS and USA Today focus on families who are remodeling to accommodate older parents moving back in with their children. CBS National Correspondent Byron Pitts says in the segment, “Building for baby boomers and their parents is one of the fastest-growing sectors of the housing industry…It's called ‘aging in place.’ The association [NAHB] even sponsors classes that include sensitivity training for builders, who must meet the needs of an aging population.” ( View the CBS story here. Referring to aging-in-place remodeling, Marco della Cava of USA Today writes, “There's no doubt that overhauling a house using ‘universal design’ will boost both the property's value and functionality. CAPS contractors use that sales pitch often; they just try to do so without reminding boomer clients that they'll soon be getting old.” (Read the story here.)
The Remodelors Council is the only organization that teaches remodelers how to market to and remodel for the aging population. To learn more about joining the Remodelors Council, visit here. If you are a consumer interested in remodeling, visit here.
