Education Information and Upcoming Events
One of the core purposes of the NAHB University of Housing is to ensure building and remodeling professionals stay on the cusp of industry trends and are equipped with the most modern and up-to-date knowledge and information available. In order to accomplish this goal, the University of Housing routinely revises current course content through the assistance and dedication of industry experts.

By the end of 2007, four existing courses will be updated and offered through state and local home builders associations across the country: Introduction to Project Management; Marketing and Communication Strategies for Aging and Accessibility (CAPS I);Design/Build Solutions for Aging and Accessibility (CAPS II); and Estimating for Builders and Remodelers.

  • Introduction to Project Management (formerly On-Site Project Management and Off-Site Project Management): This hands on-course covers the three phases of a successful venture: planning, implementation, and evaluation.  Owners, project managers, superintendents, sales managers, and anyone involved in the pre-construction and construction process will benefit from this introductory course.  This course will be conducted at the Remodeling Show in Las Vegas on Oct. 8.

  • Marketing and Communication Strategies for Aging and Accessibility, CAPS I (formerly Working With and Marketing to Older Adults): Today, millions of people are living longer with more active lifestyles and have a growing interest in revitalizing their home environment.  Developing the necessary skills to interact with this burgeoning population can help you expand your business dramatically.  This course will teach best practices for marketing to and serving the “Aging in Place” community — one of the fastest growing populations in remodeling and related industries.  This course will be given at the Remodeling Show in Las Vegas on Oct. 7.

  • Design/Build Solutions for Aging and Accessibility (CAPS II) (formerly Home Modifications): The growth of the older adult population has presented a tremendous opportunity for remodelers.  CAPS II will teach students the guidelines and requirements of accessibility, the importance of conducting an assessment with input from qualified health care professionals, and the significance of good design to ensure quality “Aging in Place” home modifications for safe, attractive, and comfortable living.  This course will be available at the Remodeling Show in Las Vegas on Oct. 8.

  • Estimating for Builders and Remodelers: Designed for remodelers and small to mid volume builders, the “Estimating” course will teach students how to develop winning bids and use estimates as a powerful management tool.  Upon completion, graduates will appreciate the importance of estimating and will have the necessary knowledge to create and implement an estimating system.  Understanding how to work with the latest technology programs will be a key focus of this revised course.

This course will be held at IBS on Feb. 11. If you are interested in participating on future course development or revision teams, please contact Jennifer Johnson at jpjohnson@nahb.com or 800-368-5242 x8162.

For the month of November the University of Housing will be offering classes for a 50% discount. To be eligible for the discount, select and schedule your November classes with Joint Venture Education staff by Sept.r 20. You can pass the savings to your participants or use it as a means for additional revenue.

For the BAR and PREP, you must offer the special discounted rate of $95 for registrant. [return to top]
