Committee Highlights

• The Remodelor of the Month program will be changed to make it more of a monthly highlight.
• The winner, once selected by the Council, will be featured within Qualified Remodeler (QR) magazine. QR will also heavily promote the program with ads in the magazine.  
• Winners will be encouraged to apply for Remodelor of the Year, but must fill out the separate Remodelor of the Year application.

• A new ad for consumers was created which will run in Hanley Wood publications for the general public.

• In 2005, more than 200 news stories included the Remodelors Council, resulting in an estimated total audience of more than 100 million people.
• Major news highlights included CNN American Morning featured CAPS with Alan Hanbury as the spokesperson,  almost every major newspaper (Wall Street Journal, NY Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Chicago Tribune, etc.), as well as major magazines like Time and Business Week.

• Held brainstorm to generate ideas to better work with local councils in our public relations efforts.
• The goal is to provide councils the tools to get their PR efforts off the ground, allow locals to share compelling stories with national, and locals to share success with other locals.

• The University of Housing drafted an exit survey to learn why individuals do not renew their designation.
• CAPS instructors must obtain and maintain their CAPS.

• Home Modifications will start its revision in March and Working with and Marketing to Older Adults will start its revision in May. Both course revisions will be complete by the end of 2006.
• Content Providers and Course Reviewers are needed! Contact Beth Meier (x8162), Brenda Sanders (x8178), or Bill Owens if you are interested.

• In 2005, more than 60+ news stories included CAPS, resulting in an estimated total audience of more than 50 million people.
• More collaboration is to come with the 50+ Housing Council with Louis Tenenbaum acting as liaison and focusing on where the two groups can connect.
• New consumer oriented CAPS super visuals were created for the Remodelors’ Council 10x10 pop up booth display used at the White House Conference on Aging in December 2005.
• Greater relationship development is in the works between CAPS and AARP.
• We are in need of quality photos. Please take pictures of your projects and send them in!

• 791 active CAPS graduates nationwide.
• 75 classes in 2005.
• 294 graduates in 2005.

• 831 active CGR graduates nationwide

• 268 candidates have taken PREP (40 of which are CBT) in 2005.

• University of Housing drafted an Exit Survey to determine why people don’t renew in order to help orient the program’s goals in recruitment and retention.
• Mr. Hanbury suggested a working group get together to create some templates on how to market CGR. This will be lead by: Don Novak, CGR, CAPS, CGB, Frank Malpere, Jr., CGR, CAPS, CGB, Carroll Bogard, CGRA, and Al Wahbey, CGR, CAPS, GMB.

• Continued promotion of the CGR designation has created recognition among media outlets. CGR appeared in 18 news stories in 2005, up from 12 in 2004.
• We need to encourage all new CGRs to continue sending out press releases announcing their accomplishment.
• The estimated number of media impressions from all the stories is approximately 2 million people exposed to CGRs through the news.

• The staff is ready to move forward in February on reviewing the PREP questions, but a task force is going to be created first to further discuss the subject matter and the organization of categories.

• Amnesty Plan 2006 The Board approved an amnesty plan for 2006 in which a suspended CGR can pay a $100 reinstatement fee ($50 of which is due to the penalty), take one course within the first 12 months, and complete the continuing education cycle in 3 years from paying the reinstatement fee.
• A task force formed to further discuss the idea and details of a master level CGR designation and will be presented at Spring Boards.

• There is $31,450 in the Remodelors Fund of the National Housing Endowment.  Committee approved spending up to $2,000 on the 2006 with no more than $1,000 to be awarded per winner. It was decided that past chairs should be the judges for the BP contest applicants. Don Novak volunteered to mentor the 2006 winner(s).
• The following individuals will interview candidates for the RC leadership at the spring board: Mike Weiss, Don Novak, Bill Owens, and Karen Nakamura. 
• Mike Weiss will share a leadership mentoring proposal with the leadership development committee, following this board meeting, that he would like them to consider. This is in addition to the mentoring proposal submitted by Karen Nakamura and her working group this past year.
• Ed McGowan, CGR, former chairman of the Remodelors Council passed away after a short illness on December 28. Members are asked to contribute to the Remodelors Fund at the National Housing Endowment in Ed’s name.

• As of November 2005, we had 7,377 members and 148 active Remodelors Councils.
• The 2005 at-large membership drive has brought in approximately 100 new at-large members.
• Five new councils formed in 2005.

Year Long Membership Contest

• First Place Small Council Division  - Long Island Builders Institute, Remodelors Council
• First Place Medium Council Division – Home Builders Association of Greater Fox Valley Remodelors Council.
• First Place Large Council Division – Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelors Council.
• The newest category is Fastest Growing Remodelors Council by percentage - Long Island Builders Institute, Remodelors Council
• These awards were presented at the Chairman’s Dinner.

• On Oct. 27th The Directory of Professional Remodelers on NAHB.org was announced.  Remodelors Council members went sent an email containing the link allowing then to manage their own listing in the directory

• There are 277 education session at IBS.  The Remodelors Council is sponsoring 10 programs.
• 2007 IBS returns to Orlando February 7-11, 2007. NAHB will collect education session proposals for 2007 IBS Jan 11-March 17.

• Copies were sent to participating members in October.
• Copies are available for purchause at BuilderBooks.com.

• Builder Books is updating and reprinting the How to Find a Professional Remodeler brochure. 
• Anyone with book ideas is welcome to contact Christine Charlip in Builder Books.

• The first Road Show will be hosted in Jacksonville FL, February 16.
• Theme: Take the Road to Higher Profits, Vince Butler and Alan Hanbury will deliver two education sessions, “Planning Your Way to Profit" and "Overhead, Margin and Markup." 
• The Pella Corporation is the sponsor.

• The committee discussed ways to utilize, promote and improve upon the Associate Member Blueprint for Success. 
• A joint taskforce was established with the membership committee to re-purpose the blueprint for use for remodeler members.
