Highlights from the Remodelers at Fall Board

Remodelers convened at the Fall Board meeting in Seattle to update their committees and discuss current issues.

Committee Application Form

Membership in the following NAHB Remodelers committees for 2008 will be by appointment by the NAHB Remodelers leadership, click here for more details. These committees are:

  • Membership and Education Development
  • Business Associates
  • Public Affairs
  • Legislative and Regulatory Affairs

All members are encouraged to complete an application to serve on a committee.

To apply for a committee, download and complete this form.

The CGR and CAPS Board of Governors have always been by appointment and the Leadership Development Committee is made up of the past chairs of the NAHB Remodelers Board of Trustees.

Highlights from the Committee Meetings

The designation programs are going strong with 1,141 active CAPS and 732 active CGRs. In November, HBAs will be offering a 50% discount for classes, providing a great professional development opportunity for members.

Guest speaker Judith Caden, director at the VA Loan Guaranty Service, spoke about the specially adaptive housing grant and loan program for veterans to remodel their homes. A member from Texas, Donnie Mack added that he found the VA program beneficial to his business and had already worked with several veterans on remodeling their homes.

On the policy front, work continues on forming the Green Standards with active input from remodelers. And the members anticipate benefiting from the new standards and online resources when released in 2008.

Membership News

Five new local councils have been formed so far in 2007: HBA of Northern Illinois, Olympia Master Builders (Wash.), HBA of Hickory (N.C.), HBA of Greater Terre Haute (Ind.), and HBA of Burlington-Amamance (N.C.). And NAHB Remodelers reported a total of 7,663 members.

NAHBR will be visiting Cleveland and New Hampshire later in the fall for the Road Show, an event providing training and information about the benefits of NAHBR membership.

The remodelers will meet next in Las Vegas for the Remodeling Show, pre-conference trainings, and the 2008 strategic planning session.
