Building for Boomers & Beyond Symposium Coming to New Orleans May 19-21

Building for 50+ buyers means creating homes and communities that cater to a wide spectrum of lifestyles. Boomers – leading edge, trailing edge and everyone in between – are as diverse as the rest of the population, and their mature counterparts have their own distinct preferences. Product for these age segments must appeal to buyers who are:

  • Recreating what home means. Some “right size” into smaller homes; others want room for extended families and the options they’ve always dreamed of.
  • Reinventing themselves. Passing the “50” threshold is an opportunity for people to change course and redirect their energies.
  • Refocusing their lives. Long-dormant interests are resurrected; priorities get shuffled.
  • Re-imagining their careers. Less work or a new vocation often calls for new living situations.

Find out what today’s older consumers want at 2008 Building for Boomers & Beyond: 50+ Housing SymposiumSM coming up May 19-21 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel in New Orleans. Presented by the NAHB 50+ Housing Council, the conference, titled “Defining Lifestyle Communities,” provides valuable resources for today’s builders and other housing professionals through exceptional education sessions, dynamic speakers and unlimited opportunities to network.

Among the more than 35 education sessions are:

  • Creating Universal Design: Inside and Out
  • “Hey, I’m Not Old!” Subtle Age-in-Place Design for Senior Boomers
  • The High-Tech Advantage in Active Adult Living
  • Make Greenbacks by Going Green
  • Reality vs. Research: Top Kitchen and Bath Design Trends
  • And much more!

In addition to education programs, you can work toward Certified Active Adult Specialist in Housing (CAASH) designation by completing the three CAASH courses – “Designing for the Active Adult,” “Selling to Active Adults” and “Trends and Research Methods to Define the Active Adult Lifestyle” – all offered at the Symposium. Find out more about the preconference courses.

Check out other special events like the Best of 50+ Housing Awards Gala, the New Orleans Recovery Tour and much more.
