NAHB Remodelers Spring Board Highlights

See below for highlights from the 2008 Spring NAHB Remodelers Board Meeting:

CGR Board of Governors Meeting

Chairman: Bob Peterson, CGR, CAPS

Vice Chair: Jeff Hunt, CGR, CAPS

•   763 Active CGR’s

•   472 Courses were offered so far in 2008

•   48 Graduates for 2008

•   GMR designation application available soon, the inaugural graduation will take place at the 2008 Remodeling Show in Baltimore 

•   Board voted to not accept exemption request to the 9 year active CGR requirement for GMR

•   Tim Shigley, CGR, CAPS was accepted as a new member of the CGR Board of Governors

 

Membership and Education Committee Meeting

Chair: Geep Moore, CGR, CAPS, GMB, CGP

Vice Chair: Bob Pence

•   7,622 members

•   4 new councils to date in 2008: HBA of Asheville, NC; BA of Western Nevada; HBA of Quad Cities, IA; HBA of Manatee County, FL

•   Chicago Road Show resulted in 15 new members: 9 for HBA of Greater Chicago and 6 for Northern Illinois HBA

•   Fall Road Show sites to be selected: 4 applications were submitted

•   IBS 2009 Education - 56 programs were submitted

•   NAHBR National Membership Day Contests - prizes for recruitment and for membership growth

•  Reviewed Strategic Plan

 

CAPS Board of Governors Meeting

Chair: Sherry Schwab, CGR, CAPS

Vice Chair: Daryl Kemp, CGR, CAPS, CGB

•   1,195 Active CAPS

•   102 Courses were offered in 2008

•   281 Graduates for 2008

•   80% renewal rate

•   Advisor positions added: Vince Butler, CGR, CAPS, GMB; Cindy Knutson-Lycholat, CGR, CAPS; Alan Hanbury, CGR, CAPS, CGP

•   Vice Chair position: Daryl Kemp, CGR, CAPS, GMB

•   Strategic Plan - Pursue partnerships, continue relationships and dialogs, continuing education, Advanced CAPS course, identify regional trade shows

 

Public Affairs Committee Meeting

Chair: Bob Birner, CGR, CAPS

Vice-Chair: Michael Menn, CGR, CAPS

•   Awards Overview - www.nahb.org/remodelerawards

•   National Remodeling Month & Remodel Now Campaign - www.nahb.org/remodelingmonth

•   Website usability study - very positive consumer feedback on www.nahb.org/remodel, they also asked for more photos and remodeling ideas

•   Press hits going strong for 2008

•   Collecting photos for remodeling archive

•   Strategic priorities: identify why consumers should use NAHBR members, create a media kit

 

Past Chairmen Leadership Development Meeting

Chair: Vince Butler, CGR, CAPS

•    Fall golf tournament in San Diego Sept. 24 lead by Doug Sutton, Mike McCalvy and Tom Swartz

•    Remodelers fund has $43,097 market value

•    Working group will review the mission of NHE Remodelers Fund & will give recommendations for changes

•    Strategic Plan Highlights - to make NAHBR more integrated with HBAs, to establish connection to EOC, to create and refine the message to EOs

 

Business Associates Committee Meeting

Chair: Don Reddaway, CGA

Vice Chair: Robert Kraay

•   184 CGAs of which 101 are active

•   Promotion of CGA designation

•   NAHB Associates Committee - working on developing a formal relationship

•   “Remodeling Relationships: Your Guide to Maximizing Your Membership” presentation is now available 

•   May is National Home Remodeling Month

•   Strategic Plan priorities - Encourage growth of the Business Associates Committee; Integrate Business Associates Committee with other Committees; Enhance the CGA program; Strengthen the connection between CGA & CGR

 

 

Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee Meeting

Chair: Donna Shirey, CGR, CAPS

•    C50 survey has been discontinued by the Census bureau

•    Lead Paint - Final rule released March 31 to be effective April 2010; does not contain clearance testing

•   A new resolution regarding the Lead Paint will be approved at the NAHB board meeting; NAHBR is reviewing current training options; will monitor court dockets for potential lawsuits by advocacy groups and consider intervention

•   Energy Tax Credits passed by Senate but not law yet

•   Strategic Plan Highlights - Encourage 100% participation in BUILD PAC; Legislative committee to be clearing house for local issues; survey Remodeler Councils for hot regulatory issues

 

Green Remodeling Committee Meeting

Vice Chair: Scott Sevon, CGR, CAPS, CGP

•    Update on Standards - will be released very soon

•    Certified Green Professionals designations is very active and first graduation will be held at Green Conference

•   Green program website www.nahbgreen.com is up and running and is a great learning tool

•   Green Conference has record registration May 11-13 New Orleans

•   Work on drafting committee mission and goals

•   Will coordinate with NAHB Green Committee
