SHC Is Now the 50+ Housing Council
The NAHB Seniors Housing Council officially is changing its name to the 50+ Housing Council...

50 Plus Housing CouncilTo better reflect the council's membership and the wide range of housing types currently being built, the NAHB Seniors Housing Council officially is changing its name to the 50+ Housing Council. This new, inclusive name mirrors the diverse membership the Council serves, including active adult, assisted living, independent living, continuing care retirement communities, and other seniors housing. It also will position the Council, which has nearly 1,200 local and at-large members across the country and abroad, for continued growth in the future.

˜Today’s mature home buyers simply don’t identify themselves as 'seniors,' and the 50+ Housing Council wants to be in touch with our members and the dynamic consumers they serve," said Randy RInehart, 2005 chairman of the 50+ Housing Council and a custom builder from Charlottesville, Va. "The new name is more marketable and will allow the Council to reach builders, developers, and other professionals involved in the 50+ market."

The NAHB Board of Directors approved the name change during the Fall Board of Directors Meeting in Reno, Nev. While the grand unveiling and launch of the new name will not occur until the 2006 International Builders’ Show in January in Orlando, Fla., you may notice the new name and logo popping up on the NAHB Web site, in marketing collateral, and soon right here at e/Source!

Seniors' Housing News will relaunch as 50+ Housing Magazine in the Winter 2006 issue.

The new name is only part of the effort to increase value and benefits for members, including the new online membership directory and research exclusive to 50+ Housing Council members only.
