Council and Committee Updates
Committee Provides Council Members With Advocacy Support
Do you have a tricky regulatory issue in your market that is affecting your ability to do business? The NAHB 50+ Housing Council’s Advocacy, Legislative, and Rental Seniors Housing Committee provides advocacy support to members. The committee works closely with NAHB and legal experts to address problems in your own jurisdiction.
The committee currently is working with an NAHB to address concerns with Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insurance and age-restricted properties. The HUD/FHA Insurance Task Force recently released an opinion letter and met during NAHB’s Fall Board of Directors Meeting in Reno, NV. Check out the complete opinion letter for details.
In addition, the Advocacy, Legislative, and Rental Seniors Housing Committee produces programs at the International Builders’ Show and NAHB board meetings to educate building professionals on the growing rental seniors housing market.
To get involved with the committee or discuss an advocacy issue, contact Jeff Jenkins, NAHB 50+ Housing Council, at 800-368-5242 x8292 or jjenkins@nahb.com.
Get Involved With the 50+ Housing Council as a Trustee
All 50+ Housing Council members are invited to submit a request to become a trustee on the 2006 50+ Housing Council’s Board of Trustees. Appointment terms run for one year. If selected by NAHB’s senior officers, you will become an integral part of planning and implementing the goals and objectives of the 50+ Housing Council at the national level.
The governing body of the 50+ Housing Council has supervision, control, and direction of the affairs of the council and its committees. The 50+ Housing Council Board reports directly to the NAHB Executive Board through the 50+ Housing Council Chair.
The NAHB 50+ Housing Council exists to encourage the development and management of an adequate supply of housing for 50+ consumers by serving its members and affiliated local councils through education, membership, research, communication, information, advocacy, and networking products and services. The council is committed to compiling and sharing housing solutions that optimize individual and corporate achievements of NAHB and 50+ Housing Council members as they strive to meet the housing needs of mature consumers.
Submit yourself for consideration by NAHB’s senior officers by completing the 2006 Committee & Council Sign-Up Form. The deadline for requests is Oct. 7.
