Local 50+ Housing Council News: New Councils, NE Fall Symposium

50+ Housing Councils Expand From Coast to Coast

Do you want to know what new active adult jobs are on the boards in your local market? Want to make valuable business contacts with other 50+ housing professionals in your area or learn from local and national experts? The solution is to form a local 50+ Housing Council at your local or state home builders association.

A local 50+ Housing Council unites builders, developers, and other housing professionals who want to learn more about opportunities in the active adult and 50+ housing market. Local councils also include architects, designers, sales and marketing professionals, market researchers, real estate professionals, mortgage brokers, and others who want to know about the fastest-growing segment of the housing industry.

A local 50+ Housing Council provides education, information, research, networking, and recognition. Most importantly, it provides you with a foundation for success in your own backyard.

Ron Hauptman, of Remington Homes in Arvada, CO, said that he has greatly benefited from his membership in the Active Living Council of Metro Denver, one of more than dozen local and regional 50+ Housing Councils across the country.

“I currently build patio homes for the 50+ market. Since becoming a member of the Active Living Council, it has improved my knowledge of what we are doing and opened many doors in this expanding market,” Hauptman says. “I believe active membership in the Council is imperative to keep up with this dynamic, changing demographic.”

Check out the current list of 50+ Housing Councils.  In addition, new councils are trying to form in Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Coastal Carolina, Northern California, Ohio, and Philadelphia.

If you are interested in starting a local, regional, or state 50+ Housing Council, please contact Jeff Jenkins at jjenkins@nahb.com or call 800-368-5242 x8292.

Success Is in the Cards at the 2005 Northeast Fall Symposium

The 50 Plus New England Housing Council will host its third annual Northeast Fall Symposium on Nov. 9-10 at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.

“Builders and developers don’t want to gamble on success,” said Jane Marie O'Connor, of 55 Plus Marketing in Hawley, MA, co-chair of the 50 Plus New England Housing Council. “This Symposium will deal strategies and insights that can help their 50+ housing project come out a winner.”

The 2005 Northeast Fall Symposium program takes a step-by-step look at the development and marketing of a 50+ housing project. Speakers include regional presenters and nationally recognized experts such as active adult marketing guru William Becker, a 2005 50+ Housing Council Icon of the Industry; Margaret Wylde, PhD, a highly respected market researcher and author of the best-seller Boomers on the Horizon: Housing Preferences of the 55+ Market; and Gary Snider, an award-winning architect in active adult design.

The two-day conference is open to builders, developers, and other industry professions across New England who are interested in learning more about 50+ housing. To find out more or register to attend, call the Builders Association of Greater Boston at 617-773-1300 or go to www.50plusne.com.
