Local 50+ Housing Council Connection

Greater Washington Forms Regional Council

The Maryland-National Capital Building Industry Association (MNCBIA) recently joined forces with the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) to launch a regional 50+ Housing Council. The new Greater Washington 50+ Housing Council serves builders, developers, architects, designers, sales and marketing professionals and others involved in 50+ housing.

With dozens of active adult and retirement communities in Northern Virginia, Maryland and across the Washington region, the local council promises to grow into one of the NAHB 50+ Housing Council’s largest affiliated councils. The two builders associations operate the Washington Metropolitan Sales and Marketing Council, which is one the nation’s most successful with more than 700 members.

“With today’s mature home buyers staying ‘closer to home’ instead of retiring to the Sun Belt, there has been a surge in the number of active adult and lifestyle communities across the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area,” said Leslie Marks, a Gaithersburg, Md.-based consultant and 2006 chair of the Greater Washington 50+ Housing Council. “This regional council will provide education, information, networking and other valuable resources to the large number of building professionals in our area who recognize the importance of this emerging market niche.”

Formerly the Maryland-National Capital BIA 50+ Housing Council, the Greater Washington 50+ Housing Council will co-host the Multifamily/Active Trends Conference on Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Holiday Inn Tysons Corner in Tysons Corner, Va. The half-day program, which runs from 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., features an overview of local multifamily and active trends, tips on how to navigate the Fair Housing minefield and a CEO roundtable. Register online or contact Kathy Rockinberg at 301-445-5406 or krockinberg@mncbia.org for more details.
