Learn About Fair Housing Act, Rental Seniors Market at 2007 IBS

The NAHB 50+ Housing Council’s Advocacy, Legislative and Rental Seniors Housing Committee is presenting two programs at the 2007 International Builders’ Show to educate Council members and others in the housing industry about key 50+ housing issues.

Check out the following presentations:

"Rental Seniors Housing – New Opportunities for Builders"
Monday, Feb. 5, 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Orange County Convention Center, West 224 C, Level II

The housing industry is constantly evolving, but many believe that the active adult segment can weather a challenging market. The biggest opportunity could be in the rental realm. Two nationally recognized, award-winning architects will share their observations on the state of rental seniors housing, especially market-rate. Find out the latest trends in design, amenities and much more at the 50+ Housing Council Advocacy, Legislative and Rental Seniors Housing Committee’s annual meeting at IBS.

In addition, other relevant 50+ housing issues will be covered at the meeting. Be prepared to network and learn. All 50+ Housing Council and NAHB members are invited to participate.

Moderator:       Evelyn Howard, Howard & Associates, Bethesda, Md.
Speakers:        Manny Gonzalez, AIA, KTGY Group, Irvine, Calif.
Bill Warwick, CAASH, BartonPartners, Norristown, Pa.

“Fair Housing for the Active Adult Builder”
Thursday, Feb. 8, 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Orange County Convention Center, South 330 E-H, Level II

To age-restrict or not, it’s a tricky decision for builders. If you build an age-restricted community, it’s vital to comprehend the Fair Housing Act and how this will impact your operations. It’s equally important to know how to market your property the right way without running afoul of the law.

Marketing lifestyle isn’t enough … find out what words to avoid, how to portray your potential buyer base in your advertising and marketing campaigns and much more. Discover why age-targeting your community is a risk not worth taking.

Hear from an attorney specializing in Fair Housing, who will simplify the Act. Listen to an active adult builder who learned the hard way and a marketing professional who will provide real case studies. If you’re serving the 55+ market or thinking about it, this is a session you can’t afford to miss.

Moderator:       Evelyn Howard, Howard & Associates, Bethesda, Md.
Speakers:        Kathi Coughlin Williams, Fair Housing Institute, Atlanta.
Ken Simons, Leewood Real Estate Group, Staten Island, N.Y.
Nikki Liesse, Howard Hughes Corp., Las Vegas, Nev.

All 50+ Housing Council members and IBS attendees are invited to attend both sessions.

“The 50+ Housing Council is committed to keeping members informed about important legislative and advocacy issues that affect their day-to-day business as well as current industry trends,” said Howard, chair of the Advocacy, Legislative and Rental Seniors Housing Committee. “We encourage our members to attend our sessions, learn from experts and, more importantly, share what is going on in their own markets.”
