Heavens No, She Won't Go
Eighty-eight year old Sally Herriott is suing her retirement home to prevent it from forcing her out of her apartment and into an assisted-living home. Herriott pays for her own round-the-clock aides to help her and sees no reason why she should move from her comfortable surroundings to a hospital-like atmosphere. See the San Francisco Chronicle story here.

Where the NORCs Are
The Jewish Family Service of Colorado is mapping the location of NORCs (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities) in seven counties in order to bring more services to the people who live in them. Read about the project, which is funded by a grant from the Daniels Fund, in the Denver Business Journal (paid subscription required). You can also read about the Daniels Fund's grant to JFS here.

Torn Between Two Bedrooms, Feeling Like Someone Who Got a Good Night's Sleep
Lots of couples, including many empty-nesters, are sleeping in separate beds these days, which may be fueling the rise in demand for double master suites. It's usually because of snoring, or differing hours, but many folks who do it don't like to talk about it. From the New York Times; login required.

Active Adults in the Zone
A lack of senior housing in Clarkstown, N.Y. has prompted a proposed zoning amendment that would "add an Active Adult Residence, or AAR, zone, to the town's master plan, allowing developers to build double the number of units in a residential zone."  Read the article in The Journal News of Westchester County.

Campus Life After 50
Pending City Council approval, K. Hovnanian hopes to partner with developer Lynn Stephenson to turn the former "Textile Corridor" in Rock Hill, N.C. into upscale 55+ condos and townhouses. The story in The Herald reports that  "K. Hovnanian says the location offers a unique selling point: Residents can live close to both a downtown district as well as a college campus that offers performing arts, sporting events and classes."
