Boomers feel the squeeze when aging parents move close

Even though most seniors would prefer to stay where they are, as they age and need more care, they often move closer to their adult children. This can result in decreased independence and financial strains for some families. Facilities with a good mix of social activities can ease the burden, as can something something, as profiled in this article in USA Today.

Communities find that retirees are valuable assets

Virginia’s Fairfax County is investing in its senior and retired population as part of an initiative “to better serve and accommodate the county's increasing older population,” says this Washington Post article. The county’s committee on aging is examining the area’s transit system to see how it can be improved to increase the senior population’s involvement in the community. The county also recently held a volunteer fair aimed at seniors. [Return to top]
