Community Associations: Avoid Common Pitfalls, Attend Spring Board Program
For many builders and developers, building an age-qualified community is the easy part. Launching and running the community association represents a whole new set of challenges. Older homeowners, as some builders will tell you, can be tough to manage.
Find out what not to do when operating your association during a special program hosted by the 50+ Housing Council’s Advocacy, Legislative and Rental Seniors Housing Committee during NAHB’s Spring Board of Directors Meeting in Washington, D.C. The program, titled “Community Associations: Avoid the Pitfalls in Starting and Operating an Association within an Age-Qualified Community,” will take place from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Washington Hilton.
Builder/developers Bob Karen of Symphony Development Group in Owings Mills, Md., and Jeffrey Caruso of Caruso Homes in Crofton, Md., will share their personal experiences with community associations and offer suggestions.
In addition, representatives from the Community Associations Institute will be on hand. Heather Graham, HOA division director with the Community Management Corp. in Fairfax, Va., and attorney Lucia Anna “Pia” Trigiani with the firm of Troutman Sanders LLP in McLean, Va., will discuss how builders can avoid common mistakes and explore pertinent legal issues.
Also, the Advocacy, Legislative and Rental Seniors Housing Committee will allot time for members to discuss key advocacy and legislative issues relevant to the 50+ housing industry.
