Cohousing Workshop in Denver

A Cohousing Community “Getting Started” Workshop for Creating Active Adult Neighborhoods

What: A comprehensive overview of the development process for creating an intentional elder-rich neighborhood for “aging in community"

When: Thursday evening, Sept. 13, through noon Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007

Where: Nomad Cohousing Community, 1460 Quince Ave., Boulder, Colorado. (Fly in to Denver’s DIA Airport.)

Cost: First or single registrant: $525. Additional group members: $425. Cost includes guided tour of Denver/Boulder cohousing communities, a 170-page workbook and five catered meals.

Who: The Cohousing “Getting Started” Workshop is hosted by The Elder Cohousing Network. Presenters include Zev Paiss and Neshama Abraham, 10-year cohousing residents and national cohousing professionals with Abraham Paiss & Associates in Boulder, Colorado, and Dene Peterson, developer/resident of the ElderSpirit Community in Abingdon, Virginia.

Background: Intentional Elder-rich and Age-targeted Cohousing Communities offer the opportunity for pro-active adults to create and live in a resident-planned and managed sustainable neighborhood where they can stay in their home, possibly for the rest of their life, with the support of a caring community of neighbors.

This national 3 and 1/2 day training is for developers, builders, city and urban planners, architects and designers, and health care professionals who wish to help create one of these environmentally-sensitive developments. Topics covered include: identifying a site, creating a strong partnership between the professional development team and the future resident group, financing, marketing and membership building for the community members, design and health care considerations, and structuring a successful home owners association.
