50+ Housing Council Board of Trustees Approves Resolutions at IBS

The 50+ Housing Council Board of Trustees voted on and approved two resolutions at the 2008 International Builders' Show in Orlando. The resolutions also were approved by several other relevant subcommittees and committees before receiving final approval by the NAHB Board of Directors at IBS.

The resolutions were as follows:

  • Cost-Effective and Affordable Energy Codes and Standards. This resolution, which replaces existing policy scheduled to sunset, calls on NAHB to support only energy codes, standards and related legislation that are cost-effective and affordable. The resolution establishes the criteria to be used to measure the cost-effectiveness (based on a specific payback period) of proposed energy codes and standards. The resolution was sponsored by the Construction, Codes and Standards Committee. It was referred to the Multifamily Board of Trustees; Remodelors, Building Systems and High Production Builders councils; 50+ Housing Council Board of Trustees; and the Federal Government Affairs and State and Local Government Affairs committees.
  • Telecommunications Access, Marketing and Billing. Calls on NAHB to support mutually agreed upon contractual arrangements between owners and video service providers that create value for the owners, service providers and occupants. The resolution also calls on NAHB to support contracts known as “bulk billing” or “exclusive marketing” agreements. The resolution was sponsored by NAHB Multifamily. It was referred to the 50+ Housing Council Board of Trustees, the Multifamily Board of Trustees and the Single Family Production Builders and Land Development committees.

If you have any questions about the resolutions, e-mail Carmel McGuire, Director of Policy, Multifamily and 50+ Housing, or call her at 800-368-5242 x8207. [Return to top]
