Featured 50+ Housing Awards Winner: Sun City Anthem at Merrill Ranch

Union Center for Wellness and Higher Learning, at Sun City Anthem's Merrill Ranch provides a variety of social activities and recreational amenities tailored to the 50+ lifestyle.

The clubhouse developed by Pulte Homes and Del Webb, with interior design by Kimberly Timmons Interiors, won the silver award for Clubhouse Interior Design.

The community located in Florence, Ariz., includes this 48,000 sq. ft recreation center designed for a multitude of activies centered around education, health, and social interaction. The lounge and cafe with plasma screens provides a comfortable area for residents to interact, while the social hall offers a stage for entertaining, a full teaching kitchen, and rooms for pottery and arts and crafts.

The ASU learning center linked witha state university program for continued education, is equppied with computers, internet access, and classrooms for lifelong learning onsite. This is an emerging trend in senior communities, adding value to community living and expanding lifestyle options.

The remaining half of the recreation building is dedicated to health and fitness. The Aerobic room, indoor pool, walking and running track, and spa is a key selling item for adult buyers.

The environment in the clubhouse was created by combining contemporary design with a strong architectual prarie theme, mimicking the exterior detailing of the building. Using a number of finishes and special features gives each area of the center a unique feel. Large entry areas and the volume of space allowed for variations in ceiling hight and decor. The layering of these elements creates a sophisticated and comfortable place for socializing, education, and well being.
