2010 Icons of the Industry Awards: New Venue, New Process for Noiminations

Everyone can participate in nominating key industry players for the 2010 Icons of the Industry Awards. The 50+ Housing Council proudly sponsors this awards program, which recognizes individuals of national stature for their leadership in creating communities, products, services and education programs geared specifically for the 50+ housing market.

Icons of the Industry Award recipients have made a significant and lasting impact on the growth and development of the 50+ housing industry. They are the pace-setters in an increasingly diverse and ever-changing housing market and are recognized because of their substantial contributions to the industry. Special consideration is given to NAHB/NAHB 50+ Housing Council members, but membership is not a requirement for nomination.

Icons of the Industry recipients are chosen in the following categories:

  • Builder – A builder or developer of active adult (single-family and/or multifamily for sale or rental) and service-enriched (independent living, assisted living, memory care and/or continuing care retirement community) communities
  • Associate – An individual or company that supports the industry via programs, products or services that promote excellence within the 50+ housing industry. This category includes:
  • Innovator – An individual who has made a significant or extraordinary industry enhancing contribution to 50+ housing (minimum length of time within industry not required)
  • Product Manufacturer – Manufacturer of a product designed to enhance the lifestyle of mature consumers
  • Educator – An educator or educational institution whose programs promote excellence within the 50+ housing industry
  • Lifetime Achievement – A person who has made significant contributions to the NAHB 50+ Housing Council and/or the 50+ housing industry in general.

How to Nominate An Icon

Any selected Icon honoree must meet the Icons criteria and qualifications outlined in the relevant category, in addition to submitting a completed Icons Nomination Form. Selected honorees must attend the 2010 Best of 50+ Housing Awards ceremony in order to be recognized as an industry Icon next year. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 30, 2009. There is no fee to nominate an individual or company for this award.

Selection Process

Anyone involved in 50+ housing can nominate a person or company for consideration for Icons recognition. A panel of judges comprised of previous Icon honorees and chairs of the NAHB 50+ Housing Council's Best of 50+ Housing Awards and Icons of the Industry working groups will select the Icons honorees. All nominations received by the closing date will be considered; however, it is possible a Icon may not be selected in every category during a given year. Any selected Icon honoree must meet the program's criteria and qualifications, as mentioned above.

Awards Venue

If selected, the 2010 Icon(s) of the Industry will be honored at the 2010 Best of 50+ Housing Awards event on Monday, January 18, in Las Vegas, during the International Builders' Show.
