Communities Awards
AARP and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) are accepting entries for the third annual Livable Communities Awards. These awards honor forward-looking housing industry professionals who have designed, built or remodeled creative and unique homes and communities that improve the daily comfort, ease of use and safety of residents.
New categories have been added this year to recognize architects and planners for home and community design. These two new categories supplement the original awards that recognized builders, remodelers and developers.

How to Get Through the Storm Water Regulatory Maze

NAHB is holding a free webinar on July 29 to give builders and land developers the information they need to cut through the maze of overlapping, confusing and cumbersome regulations so they can increase compliance and reduce their risk of enforcement action and high-dollar fines resulting from unscheduled inspections.
"How to Get Through the Stormwater Regulatory Maze: Understanding the Alphabet Soup of BMPs, LID, TMDLs and SWPPP Processes" will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29.
The webinar speaker is:
- Jennifer Hildebrand, CPESC, CPSWQ, of Weis Builders, a third-generation, family-owned builder of multifamily commercial and mixed-use projects. At Weis Builders, which has offices in Minnesota, Illinois, North Carolina and Texas, Hildebrand specializes in compliance issues, inspection programs, program design and site plan reviews.

Deadline for Icon Nominations, October 30th!
Everyone can participate in nominating key industry players for the 2010 Icons of the Industry Awards. The 50+ Housing Council proudly sponsors this awards program, which recognizes individuals of national stature for their leadership in creating communities, products, services and education programs geared specifically for the 50+ housing market.
How to Nominate An Icon
Any selected Icon honoree must meet the Icons criteria and qualifications outlined in the relevant category, in addition to submitting a completed Icons Nomination Form. Selected honorees must attend the 2010 Best of 50+ Housing Awards ceremony in order to be recognized as an industry Icon next year. The deadline for nominations is Oct. 30, 2009. There is no fee to nominate an individual or company for this award.
Selection Process
Anyone involved in 50+ housing can nominate a person or company for consideration for Icons recognition. A panel of judges comprised of previous Icon honorees and chairs of the NAHB 50+ Housing Council's Best of 50+ Housing Awards and Icons of the Industry working groups will select the Icons honorees. All nominations received by the closing date will be considered; however, it is possible a Icon may not be selected in every category during a given year. Any selected Icon honoree must meet the program's criteria and qualifications, as mentioned above.
Awards Venue
If selected, the 2010 Icon(s) of the Industry will be honored at the 2010 Best of 50+ Housing Awards event on Monday, January 18, in Las Vegas, during the International Builders' Show.
