Editor... In this issue: NAHB Student Chapter Tours Del Webb Community on 'A Day at the Job Site'Pulte Homes and the National Association of Home Builders' Student Chapters recently invited students from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore to experience “A Day at the Job Site” through a new program designed to give students a first-hand look at the homebuilding industry. Pulte Homes has spearheaded the events to not only expose students to the many opportunities of home building as a career choice, but also to focus on their diversity and inclusion efforts in all aspects of home building. The four-city tour of “A Day at the Job Site” kicked off in Easton, Md., on Oct. 15 at Chesapeake by Del Webb, an age-qualified community by Pulte’s active adult division. Pulte is now building its last phase near historic St. Michael’s, Md. A total of 26 Construction Management Technology (CMT) students and faculty saw the numerous amenities in the park-like setting as they toured homes in various stages of construction, interacting with Pulte Homes executives on topics ranging from land development to sales and marketing to the 55+ market. Students also participated in a scavenger hunt and were awarded prizes. Representatives from the Eastern Shore Building Industry Association included Executive Officer Jill Barbon and Eastern Shore BIA President John J. Capozzi of Capozzi Construction. “‘A Day at the Job Site’ - what a wonderful idea!," said Dr. Carlos Salgado of UMES. "Pulte Homes should be commended for providing such an informative and educational day for our students. They created a learning experience that not only exposed the students to the various stages of home construction, but also provided them the opportunity to interact with Pulte professionals. The event led to a future ongoing relationship between Pulte Homes and the CMT program – discussions are in the works to hold a soil class on the job site." Additional “A Day at the Job Site” events will take place in the coming months in Arizona, Texas and Florida. All students who attend the events are members of NAHB through the NAHB Student Chapters program, administered by Home Builders Institute, the workforce development arm of NAHB.
