Las Vegas Highlights for You — and Your Members

In just over a week, Las Vegas will turn into home builder central as more than 100,000 industry professionals swarm the city for the annual International Builders' Show. The following are a few items to help you and your members make the most of the convention.

Annual State and Local Meetings and Events

SLGA Recognition Awards Breakfast: Monday, January 19, 8-10 a.m., Hilton Ballroom F. NOTE: Event is sold out.
Board of Directors Meeting: Tuesday, January 20, 8 a.m.-12 noon, Hilton/Baron Room

NEW: General Liability Insurance Course

NAHB has developed a new course to address the liability insurance crisis . The course, offered Friday, January 16 in Las Vegas, addresses comprehensive risk management strategies to reduce construction risks .

The Risk Management/Insurance for Building Professionals course is designed to help builders, developers and remodelers avoid risks, minimize risks, transfer risks and, where possible, buy insurance and make insurance claims. This one-day course is approved for the Graduate Master Builder (GMB) designation credit, and covers the following topics:

Identifying and classifying risks
Risk management techniques
Liability insurance
First-party property insurance
Contractor's pollution liability insurance and other environmental coverages
Developing an insurance program
Insurance claims
Non-insurance risk transfer

First Time Attendee Orientation

To a first-time attendee, the International Builders’ Show resembles a crowded shopping mall on the night before Christmas. You know you need to be there, but where do you begin? How do you make the most of all those committee and council meetings, educational seminars, networking opportunities, home tours, building product and technology exhibits, computer labs, discussion panels, and special events?

Whether you're a Builders’ Show newbie or are sending some staff members for the first time, take advantage of orientation sessions lead by IBS veterans and housing contractors just like yourself.

You'll learn about the best educational sessions to attend, must-see areas of the show floor, good routes to navigate the Convention Center, where to get lunch (you needn't be prisoner of the food courts), and other vital IBS how-to’s. You'll also learn how to make the most of your NAHB membership.

Sponsored by Sears Contract Sales, two sessions will take place on Monday, January 19 in Room N256 (that's the North Hall) in the Las Vegas Convention Center from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. An additional session will take place on Tuesday, January 20 in Room N263 (also in the North Hall) from 11:00 a.m to noon.
