New Timeline for Outstanding Student Chapter Award Applications!

At the 2003 Fall Board meetings, NCHI — the Supplier 100 of NAHB, voted to support the Outstanding Student Chapter Award on an ongoing basis. The award increased from $500 to $2000 for first place when NCHI took over in 2002. During the same Fall Board meetings, the NAHB Student Chapters Advisory Board members voted to change the timeline of the awards from a school year application to a calendar year application. Therefore, now is the time to start recording your efforts in order to win some cash for your school!

The NCHI Outstanding Student Chapter Awards will be judged from activities beginning in January 2004 and ending in December 2004. Applications are due on December 3. Judges will look at the applications in December, and we will award cash prizes to the winners in January 2005 at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL.

Sending an application is an easy opportunity to raise funds for your school. Simply record your activities monthly, insert them into an application notebook or CD-ROM and send the packet to HBI in December.

Southeast Community College in Milford, Neb., first place winner for 2003, consistently places in the top three for this award. Faculty advisor, Larry Kness, says that, “Success with this program is the result of a process. We designate one or two students each year to record our activities, and the application is finished without having to rush to complete it last minute.” The entry application is available to all chapters. Simply complete the order form and send it to HBI.

Good luck with your activities this year. We want to know what you are doing, so start the process now. Our goal is to break records with applications in 2004. With the support of NCHI — the Supplier 100 of NAHB, we will work to make this program one of NAHB’s most prestigious awards programs for its student members! [ return to top ]
