Access Mexico Project: A Highlight at the 2004 IBS
The 2004 International Builders’ Show (IBS) provided a lively venue for events spotlighting the National Association of Home Builders’ Acc ess Mexico Project, a new partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce to promote the Mexican housing market to U.S. home builders and suppliers.
“With its emphasis on business opportunities, education and innovation in the construction industry, the International Builders’ Show was the perfect vehicle to call attention to one of NAHB’s newest initiatives — the Access Mexico Project,” said NAHB President Bobby Rayburn. “We're excited about this unique opportunity to work with our Mexican colleagues in the housing sector to help address Mexico’s housing needs.”
Several Access Mexico events were filled to capacity, illustrating the popularity of the project. More than 200 people participated in Mexico’s Housing Market: Its Investment and Business Opportunities, a high level panel discussion that included Sebastian Fernandez Cortina, Director General of CONAFOVI (Mexico’s National Housing Commission), and Elkan Sorsby, Vice President of CANADEVI (Mexico’s National Association of Home Builders). The Access Mexico reception welcomed more than 300 builders, suppliers, bankers and government officials from both countries.
Throughout the show, the Access Mexico Center was a hub of activity — linking U.S. and Mexican builders and suppliers and promoting upcoming activities such as the Second International Housing Conference of the Americas scheduled for November 7-10. The event will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Mexico City and will feature educational seminars, several networking functions, property tours, scheduled one-on-one meetings, as well as exhibit space for products and services. (Note: NAHB Student Chapter Members receive 50% off of the registration fees and the first 200 conference registrants will receive a complimentary registration to the 2005 International Builders’ Show in Orlando.)
“The Access Mexico Project is all about creating opportunities and facilitating linkages between U.S. and Mexican businesses,” said Rita Feinberg, Executive Director of NAHB’s International. “Access Mexico activities at the IBS contributed significantly to our goals by bringing together key players.”
