Letter From the Chair
Welcome to the second publication year of Building Futures, NAHB’s student member e-newsletter. As we transition from 2004 to 2005, the Student Chapters program continues to grow. Critical to this expansion is the support of our Corporate Partners and sponsoring HBAs offering our student members a direct connection to the industry that will one day employ them.
The year 2005 will bring additional programs and challenges. Recognizing NAHB’s ongoing efforts to increase membership we would like to take that challenge to our NAHB Student Chapters.
Chapters did a stellar job recruiting new members last year. A record number of schools joined the 100 Plus Club, consisting of chapters with more than 100 members. Five schools recruited nearly 800 members, bringing the total number of NAHB student members to more than 3,200 students.
Finally, I’d like to encourage all our chapters to participate in the Outstanding Student Chapter Awards. A significant portion of the judging criteria for this award are recruitment efforts by the chapter. In addition, this year we held the second roundtable discussion of student officers at the International Builders’ Show and recruitment ideas were among the topics discussed. The roundtable was a success and will be held again in 2006 — so chapter officers, you can look forward to sharing ideas on this and other topics.
You should be proud of your efforts. Remember that you are the group that will influence our industry, so let your classmates know about the great opportunities in home building!
